Pro Star – 1970’s

Bunker Pro-Star (1970's) whiteThe Pro-star Guitar Series The Pro-star line of guitars and basses (pic green guitar) really had it's beginning in Dave's original band, the Dave Bunker Show. It was in the late 60's when Dave built instruments for the girls in his band who he felt needed something not only eye catching but also light weight, more comfortable and with a tonal sound different from other guitars "early guitars" These rare guitar's were built for several popular Nashville artist and were the forerunners to the Pro-star guitars, of the mid 1970's, which were built in Tacoma Washington where Bunker Guitars had it's first manufacturing company. Only around 400 of these guitars and basses were made part of them being the very rare and collectable Pro-bass built in the mid 70's. greenThis was one of the first Pro-star guitars, built in 1958, radical but very functional, this guitar had on body tuning with a chrome cover to hide the machine heads, 12 individual hand wound pickup coils made by Dave on a winding tool which he made from an old singer sewing machine. The naugahyde covering was wraped over a spruce wood frame and the center wedge and neck of the guitar were removable oldbandThe lady's shown here, Patti, Jodi and Vicki, were part of Dave's all girl band, the Dave Bunker show, which worked in some of Las Vegas top nite spots in the 60's and 70's. These guitars were the next stage in the developement of the Pro-star idea. The necks mounted on the guitars let the girls dance and move around at will on stage and were a big hit with audiences Another early picture of the Dave Bunker show featuring the fabulous Wilkinson family.davebunkershow
