Tension Free Necks

“The only replacement guitar neck you should ever consider.”

The Tension Free Guitar Neck

Bunker Guitars has sold thousands of guitars, each with its own exclusive Tension Free neck. Both right and left handed guitars benefit from this amazing technology. But now you can own a custom made Tension Free guitar neck for your Fender Guitar (Stratocaster or Telecaster), Ibanez RG Series, Paul Reed Smith guitars, or any other instrument with similar dimensions. The long narrow piece of wood that you wrap your hands around is structurally weak. It will not take more than 60 to 120 pounds of string compression stress before it tries to bow forward. Yet the typical guitar neck must be built to resist 200 pounds of compression in order to create good tone and playability. What the Tension Free neck offers:
No Dead Spots
More Sustain
Easy Adjust Tunes with much less tension (allowing for playing with less force to hold strings against frets) Stays In Tune Longer
Greater Tone and Clarity
Patented Engineering

“Incredible tone and sustain in a custom guitar neck…an engineering genius.”

What Is It?

Tension Free refers to the patented Bunker guitar neck innovation that removes structural stress to any wood resulting from tension that is created when the strings are tightened to musical pitch.

A Tension Free neck will make your guitar sing with a clarity you never experienced before.

“The tension free replacement neck is every guitar player’s dream…”

How Does It Work?

Structural stress in wood changes its internal acoustics and works against qualities of natural tone and sustain that you find in only the highest quality instruments. Sustainium Rod for Tension Free Neck In the Bunker Tension Free, the steel bar, not the wood of the neck, handles the string tension. But like all Bunker products, it’s what you don’t see that identifies supreme quality in workmanship. Where other manufacturers use a common low grade steel or graphite rod to apply constant pressure to the neck, the Bunker Tension Free uses a resonant Sustainium® cold roll steel bar or alloy bar. The difference between low grade steel or graphite under pressure and Sustainium® steel under no pressure is like comparing a tin spoon to a piano fork. One resonates. The other falls flat. Why does this matter? Well, do you want the best tone you can possibly get from a guitar? You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t.

Think for a minute about the Stradivarian qualities of blending natural materials to create natural tones and you will begin to understand the simplicity and importance of this concept.

“Keep your guitar body…but replace its neck.”

What Do Other Manufacturers Use?

Other manufacturers truss-rods and graphite systems put pressure to stiffen the neck to keep it from warping. This creates stiffness which keeps the neck from resonating as well. But the Bunker Tension Free system frees the wood up to resonate which increases the overall sustain, improves the tone, and allows consistent tonality down the entire neck. All popular guitars…with the exception of those with the Tension Free neck…use a low grade steel truss rod in conjunction with or  graphite stiffeners, through the neck and into the headstock to stiffen the neck and keep it from warping. Hard rock maple is a common requirement for guitar necks because it is one of the only woods that will withstand heavy stress without breaking. But we have already seen and heard what stress will do to defeat tone clarity. ibanezfront

“An Insiders’ Choice…this premium guitar neck...is now available as a stand alone.”

Can I Use Any Wood Now?

With the Bunker Tension Free system, virtually any wood can be selected for your own custom guitar neck. The selection criteria is internal resonance, not strength. That means that acoustically superior Western Maple, Mahogany or any other wood can be chosen…. including Hard Rock Maple. Not a single ounce of stress will interfere with the naturally resonant qualities of that wood.

“Boeing Missile Engineers did the stress testing…”

Who Uses The Tension Free Neck?

How about Arlen Roth who proudly says:

“I find it hard to describe the joy of playing this instrument. All of my first good impressions certainly have been proven to be true,. It’s perhaps the easiest and most forgiving instrument I'veArlen-Roth ever played. I certainly have found it hard to put down, and its already given me a ton of new ideas for tunes just by the virtue of its unique sound and playing qualities. The Tension-free neck and the unique bridge treatment lend themselves to incredible ease of playing, and its an absolute beauty to look at. Thanks again for your incredible design work and musical vision, you've truly created a masterpiece that puts a "work of art" into the hands of other artists. I look forward to every minute I play this guitar.

Gratefully Yours, Arlen Roth “

Arlen Roth is a studio session artist and the founder of the popular "Hot Licks Video" Series. And many other unsolicited guitarists that you can read in Guitar Forums around the net:
“It sounds amazing.” Suho on SevenString.org (sevenstring.org/forum/...) “No dead spots at all- anywhere! Kinda amazing. …Sustain- in spades. At certain amp volumes- it would remind you of an organ- almost infinite when playing chords, and no need for compressor or other gizmos when playing leads/single notes ring true and long…For me- these are super high quality necks that are in a class all their own. BTW- the fretwork and nut on both was perfect.” Posted by Hiwaychild at Harmony Central (http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=946419) “I will never forget his name. His company (Bunker Guitars) has some of the coolest innovations I've seen in a while." Posted by PinchGirlsButts at Harmony Central (http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=946419) “FLAWLESS HANDCRAFTED PIECE OF GLORY. Plays like warm butter…The headstock is removable which is part of the tension free neck design. This lets the neck last forever without ever twisting or warping. In fact, I think Bunker still gives a lifetime warrantee on their necks. The pickups sound great and they each have a coil tap which allows me to go from sounding like a Strat to a Tele all the way to a Les Paul with the flip of a switch… Dave Bunker himself called me back to talk about the guitar with me. What a cool guy. The neck has a lifetime warranty I believe, but I don’t' know about the rest. I think that if you brought one down to Dave Bunker, he'd fix it for you... maybe even free of charge…" Posted by Henry at Harmony Central (http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/product/Bunker+Guitars/Prostar/10/1)

“It is one of the guitar world’s least known masterpieces of engineering.”
